It is Halloween.

I love this time of year.

I do not buy a single chocolate in gaudy wrapper. I do not buy any plastic tat and emblazon my house in orange and black plastic. That is not Halloween, that is the same comercialism that could be anywhere and anytime.

This is how I think a witch should be. A little pagan, a little free, certainly outside and happy to be there. This is the time of year to be outside. It is sharp at night, the moon is rich and inviting. It is a time for reflecting and protecting. It is a time to remember who we are when the world tries to make us forget.

We are not pedestrian and powerless. We are not as we first seem. We forget sometimes what we are, but at Halloween I think maybe we remember something.

It is atavistic, it is a little dark, it is part of the natural world, it is full of wonder.
