I could say fifteen things* about these posters but I am briefly attempting to be good so I will not.
*That would be far too many. One should be able to sum up a response to four posters in less than fifteen points.
1) I love this art that looks like childhood pictures but can be peeled back to a thousand layers. I think that is the dichotomy of childhood; we confuse it with simplicity and lack of meaning whereas, of course, nothing could be further from the truth.
2) “I am my own captain” but how could that be true for a girl like me? It is true for girls like me, more true for us, I think, than girls who have no one to boss them around and make them all upturned and red bottomed. You see I am expected to control myself. I am expected not to throw a wobbler and get all red-faced and screamy when I am annoyed. I am expected to mind my manners and know what to do with a semicolon; truth be told, I have no idea what on earth to do with a semicolon. I have some suggestions but my inner captain and my external boss say that I am not allowed to say things like that.
3) Those little creatures standing by the captain girl are all Tops. That is a real picture of a Top. If you have not seen one I thought you would like to know. Cute, aren’t they?
4) Note that this captain has a crown. All the girls around here should have crowns or tiaras. Viola can advise if you are unsure what will suit you.
5) How about that second one? I do hate the idea of girls hanging around waiting for someone to make life all better. It means that so much fabulous time is wasted. I had a magnificent time hanging around (and still do) with all my girlfriends. Having a man and being in love is wonderful but it is no cure-all.
6) I can save myself by telling him what is going on. No matter how stern he is or how wise, if I lie to him or hide from him then he cannot help me or love me. I am an active participant in this relationship.
7) If you want to be very forward thinking then I could save myself by being good in the first place. If you are thinking that then I have a site you may prefer to this one.
8) I am wild and that is part of why he loves me. I have asked him about this when I was looking at girls who are far less trouble than I am. I think a lot of us girls are a bit wild. We should not feel guilty about this. It is what we are.
9) The best kind of men do prefer women who are a little wild. These are the men who have the gumption to know what to do if there is an unexpected occurrence.
10) If people tell you that they think women should not want to be in a relationship where someone is in charge of them because that is oppressive and should not be allowed, then you may bite them and explain later why you did it or just run off into the woods.
11) I am not in Top Gun and have no wish to be but I think that a maverick is a good thing to be.
12) This way we are is a maverick way to be because we spend a lot of time finding rules and pushing at them and niggling them to see which ones give way. We are also maverick because we like to choose how to live instead of doing what we are told by strangers who do not know us or care for us.
13) We are also maverick because if you tell us why we cannot or should not do something we take that as a bit of a challange and see what is to be done about it.
14) All of these pictures show what it is to be a girl like us. We are happy, we are fun, we are resourceful and terribly, terribly wriggly.
15) Ha! What did you expect?
