A Brief Hiatus

You know when you need a brief time out?

There is nothing wrong at all. I just am so busy at work and I have no time to do anything. I have all these posts in my head I want to write but I don’t have the time and I have no posts ready to come up except tiny short ones.

I want to write long posts. I want to write the ideas in my head. So I am taking a teeny tiny break to try and write a bit of better stuff than a one line post. I know that you will understand because I know the people who read me are the kind of people who know what it is to be very busy.

Work will not be this insane for terribly long, just a few weeks. But I do not think I will be gone from here for more than a week. I will still be around and chatting and nothing at all is wrong.

Shall I tell you what happened today? I had a crazy busy day, just the kind of day where you realise you have not eaten or drunk anything at the end of it, where at no point was I doing just one thing and where by the end of the day I had more to do than at the start of the day. I then had to get the food shopping (in horribly high heels) and go home. Once there, I was putting some rice in the rice cooker and the bag split- it exploded everywhere. I swear the rice is under every counter, in every bit of grout on the floor and I will be finding more of it for months. I did not even curse. I just took the dogs and went to bed for a bit. I slept and snuggled and realised that I needed to simplify just a little bit for a short time. Now that I have decided to take a break I feel that I can sit here and write – isn’t that funny?

As for now, I have chocolate. I have tea. I am a happy, if not a little tired, girl.

Poppy, I know that feeling of leaving work with more than when you came in. Also, the bag of rice spilling all over, Bowl I can identify with that. Once the lid to the whipped cream fell off and the can was angled funny in the refrigrator just enough so it touched something on the shelf, I had whipped cream all over the inside of the frig. ( it was a new can, of course) The story gets funnier as time passes. Have a nice weekend.

Just take your time and get done what you need and come back all relaxed; and all your friends will be here. Hug Left Hug Right

  2. Mindy says:

Do what you need to do and take as much time as you need. We’ll always be here.

Don’t forget to take good care of yourself, especially during this crazy period. I hope this weekend is as relaxing as it can be. Hug Left Hug Right

  3. Mindy says:

Poppy, when life gets busy and things feel out of control, remember that there is someone who is able to raise you up. I know that there is nothing wrong but I just wanted to share this song with you: You Raise Me Up.

(I can certainly picture Dev lifting you up on his shoulders! Big Smile )

  4. Paul says:

Poppy, good morning. Sun Rainbow Rose Clover Heart
Try and have a relaxing and restoring week-end, I had weeks like that before I retired, so I know where you are at. Peace
Take your time, get sorted and return when you are ready, we’ll still be here. Music Note
And for heavens sake girl, go easy on yourself. Doctor
Mindy, thanks, that song is my all time favourite, I have at least twenty versions of it. Handshake High Five!
Heart and warm Hug Left Hug Right ‘s
    Paul.

  5. Hermione says:

Poor Poppy. I can’t imagine having a day when I forget to eat or drink, so it must be bad! We have been crazy at work all week too; thank heaven for scheduled posts!

    See you back here soon!
    Hermione

  6. Scunge says:

Wait a minute are English Labs different from American Labs? Because when I had a Lab ANYTHING that even came near the floor was snuffled right up,and I do mean ANYTHING! ROTFL Take care Poppy and take time for tea, biscuits, chocolate, wine…. High Five!

  7. scarlet says:

I know exactly how you feel. Too busy, too hurried, nothing that smells good baking in the oven, laundry stacked all over, and the phone is ringing. You are exactly right to step back for a bit, and I am so glad that you are taking care of you.

The thing that spilled for me yesterday: my cat pushed my eyeliner sharpener off the edge of the sink–it exploded all over the bathroom floor, with all the eyeliner shavings. You can’t sweep them up or wipe them up, though, without smearing eyeliner on your pretty tiles. Worse, it got into the grout in between the tiles. I left it, too, for a bit, because it made me want to cry. So I went away and came back when I felt calmer and could deal with it. I put the cat outside. Gently. But that’s not how I felt about him. Mad

  8. Ronniesoul says:

Oh Poppy, I know so well what it’s like to have to go food shopping in heels at the end of a hellish day and then have to cook it Smile

Rest, take care of yourself and we’ll see you soon.

    Love,
    Ronnie
    xx

  9. Enjoy your break, we all need one once in a while.

    Prefectdt

  10. Poppy says:

Kaki, that cream thing sounds awful but I can see how it gets funny. I still have rice on the floor (I have swept and hoovered) but it doesn’t make me fed up any more- actually, you are right, it is quite funny.

Mindy, a beautiful song, thank you so much.

Paul, I had a great day and alas, have a ton of work to do tomorrow but I do enjoy it, so it will be ok.

Hermione, I love scheduled posts too- normally I have at least a month done in advance but I think with doing two blogs I just let one run down and I need the space and lack of pressure to build some posts up again. Thank you.

Scunge, my dogs eat so well that a bit of uncooked rice does not tickle their fancy. If it were cooked they would have sorted it ages ago.

Scarlet, you, me, spa. Let’s go. The cat can stay at my house, the dogs will do whatever he says.

Ronnie, Spanked Hortic- thank you so much. I know you both understand.

I had a lovely day. I got got early and walked for miles and miles around Eyam, a beautiful village in Derbyshire which is surrounded by valleys and moors, my feet are killing me. Eyam has a fascinating history which if you have five minutes you can read about it here.

  11. scarlet says:

Poppy, that was so beautiful about Eyam. It looks like a fascinating place for a walk.

Have you ever read Year of Wonders, by Geraldine Brooks? It’s based on Eyam, and I read it ages ago and loved it. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

  12. Em says:

Oh, Poppy, I know those weeks and I am so sorry you are having one. My dropped item for the week? My favorite glass bowl. I’m sure there is still glass hiding despite multiple passes to pick it up Frown I think I was quite the saint for not strangling the furballs responsible.

  13. Poppy says:

    Scarlet, you are a wonder.
I was wondering if there was a novel about Eyam and here you tell me about one. It will be with me by Tuesday, thank you so much!

Em, I am sorry you are having one too. You are a saint and I do hope you get a reward.

As for me, today I have cleaned the kitchen (it looked like I had a disorder when I looked at it) and the bathroom (I am ashamed at the state of it), all caught up on the blite (for posts until April 9th) and now I am going to do my homework (sigh) and then I will do some writing. Or collapse. Either way, life is good.

Arrggh- I forgot to put the chicken on- I have company for dinner- that is all my fault for thinking my life was getting easier.
    Dash, dash, dash.

  14. Mindy says:

You have accomplished a lot in just a few hours, Poppy. Clap

  15. Scunge says:

Oh my lab was well fed,but she would eat ANYTHING anytime, she was a funny thing. Wink

  16. scarlet says:

Scunge, I had a lab/shepherd mix once, and he would eat garbage, then get sick. When he was finished –ahem–emptying the contents of his stomach, I would find bottle caps, foil wrappers, crayons, anything. I don’t think he meant to eat them. I think he ate through them to get to chicken bones.

He lived to be quite old, surprisingly!

  17. Lorraine says:

Bless you, Poppy. Being over-busy gets me, too. I seem to have phases of peace and then *zoom* everything’s in overdrive all of a sudden. I’m learning to balance life better, though, and I must admit being sporadically less on the computer calms my spirits, also, sometimes. I’m still mostly in that mode now, as things are fun…but busy and a bit…well, fast.

I wish you all the best; you’ll be revved up and usually-feisty in no time, I’m sure.

Please convey my congratulations to Dev on the new book. The Erica picture rocks.
    Cool

Hi to all the girls here! And of course to the Gentlemen. Grin

  18. CRUEL says:

Poppy, while I haven’t dropped anything I did have a rice like moment . While cutting down a large tree I filled my clothes with saw dust when I undressed I spilled sawdust everywhere then broke my only glasses later that day. These are not the important things in your life. But you know that. Take care. Cruel

  19. dd says:

Poppy, it’s horrid when time runs away with the the things you have to do, leaves you worrying about the things you ought to do and no opportunity to do the things you want to do. Maybe the change in time at the weekend will help! I am constantly chasing my tail (metaphorically speaking) so can only sympathise.

Mindy, I didn’t know that song, it is beautiful, thank you.

Scarlet, my dog also eats the most unmentionable things!

  20. Annie says:

Thanks for the example of taking care of yourself Yes I’m sending you calm meditative vibes with harmonic energy (I don’t want to put you to sleep Smile )
