The Perfect Woman (and her bum)

This is what I want to be when I grow up.

I am thirty seven. So any minute now …

What about you?

What is your (not very deep) vision of the perfect woman?

Here is a funny flowchart about the woeful portrayal of women in TV and film.

  1. Scarlet says:

Poppy, I love Joan. She has been hurt, but she keeps her head up and her dignity intact. She’s a very womanly woman, isn’t she?

My perfect woman is, I suppose, an amalgam: I’d like to write like Diane Ackerman, be as witty as Gail Collins (NY Times op-ed columnist), have the poise and presence of Meryl Streep, and age like Sharon Stone or Michelle Pfeiffer. I guess that’s cheating, picking all of them!

  2. Erica says:

My vision of a perfect woman was Natalie Wood. She was stunningly beautiful, had a lovely figure, and her talent knew no bounds. She could do the heaviest of drama and the lightest of comedy, she could dance, she could sing (although her singing in “West Side Story” was dubbed). Even as a young child actor, she was amazing. Orson Welles pronounced her “so good, she’s terrifying.”

I have several pictures of my perfect woman, but when I shot them we agreed I would never post them. One of your vanilla friends might recognize you.

  4. Paul says:

Poppy, I’m seventy-five, I sometimes wonder if I’ll ever grow-up, if growing up means stopping learning, then never.
Is there such a creature as a perfect woman, somehow I doubt it!
As Dev says, your perfect woman is the one that you choose.
Have a restful and restorative week-end. Smile
    Love and warm hugs,
    Paul.

  5. Maria says:

Poppy, that woman in the clip, she sure is 100% woman. I have always thought so. Wide hips, nice make-up, hair well combed. She has authority, she is actually quite a big lady, physically, too.

When I was a small child I as admiring the women in old movies (in 40´s, 50´s and 60´s). I even asked my mum, why women used to be so beautiful when nowadays they’re not? (That was in 80′s, so when I think back, I know I had a good point!)

But I didn’t grow up as a classy and elegant woman. I’m more like Christina Ricci or Björk.

    Hugs!
    -Maria

  6. Viola says:

Can I be Nicole Kidman? I think she’s stunning. My aunt looks like her so I keep hoping some of her genes will trickle down to me! But she’s related by marriage, not blood, so I suppose I ought to accept there’s no hope there.

Alternatively, I’ll stay myself. Because frankly, I am brilliant Wink

  7. Ronniesoul says:

Why would you want to grow up?

I would have to say Audrey Hepburn, beautiful, talented, elegant and an amazing actress.

    Love,
    Ronnie
    xx

  8. Poppy says:

    Good morning!
I don’t really want to grow up but I do sometimes wonder when I will feel more like a grown up. Maybe all women bluff.

I have to admit I do not watch Mad Men, I just love the way this woman carries herself. I love her poise and dignity and now I read from Scarlet about what she is like I know I am like. I like the way she is beautiful whilst bucking the modern trend (I know Mad Men is a period piece but she could be transported anywhere and be adored.)

I would like her poise and beauty. I would like Wendy Cope’s wit, Isabel Allende’s writing talent, Eleanor of Aquitane’s brains and tenacity and Erica Scott’s ability to spell.

I think I also want to be Lauren Bacall because of who loved her but I think I am loved by my own version of Mr B anyway.

But what wonderful women role models we have,
Diane Ackerman, Gail Collins, Meryl Streep, Sharon Stone, Michelle Pfeiffer, Natalie Wood, Bjork, Christina Ricci, Nicole Kidman and Audrey Hepburn.

Although I think Dev and Viola have a point. We are wonderful women just as we are. (But I would be a tad more wonderful if I had that dress.)

  9. Although now I might think of her as a little too skinny around the hips, my first teenage obsession of Erin Grey as Colonel Wilma Deering, in Buck Rogers in the 25th century, still invades my fantasies. It was not only that she was a fit lass in skin tight spandex but she had high military rank and flew a space fighter, what more could a young spankee wish for. Sometimes it is not just looks but the authority figure that attracts.

  10. Poppy says:

    Oh!
She was so cool! I remember her.

    Good thinking, Prefectdt. Smile

  11. devlinoneill says:

I need a bigger monitor screen. Smile

  12. Kate says:

I love Christina Hendricks…her talent and her spirit and her gorgeous curves. If I ever wear a dress again, I hope I wear it half as well as she’s wearing that red one. Smile

I took a look at the flowchart Poppy – very complicated. I wonder what the one for men would look like, lol.
