If Autumn Had A Dress …

If Autumn had a dress, this very beautiful ballgown would be it.

But it is all undone and I think she may be in trouble.

I wonder what she could possibly have done.

Dropping her leaves and making a mess all over the woodland floor?

Creating sloes that will lead to mayhem and wild nights from ladies such as myself who are rather fond of a little sloe gin?

It does seem that autumn is all about encouraging naughtiness in others. There is a lot of poor behaviour to be had.

I think she should be let off all charges. Let us light a fire, gather our dogs to us and snuggle with the one we love (if that is at all possible) – autumn is a wonderful season, and we should tell her how much we love her.

(PS – this girl is called Autumn – isn’t that perfect?)

Poppy, Good morning, Autumn is indeed a lovely season, but October is my natal month, so I might be a little biased. Smile
Should I stumble across such a gorgeous lady in such a state of déshabille, I might be tempted to warm that part in need of warming. Grin
I believe that it may be the case, with certain girls, that naughtiness is a state of mind rather than a season. Wink
I have always found such girls rather attractive. Razz
    Have a good day.
    Love and warm hugs,
    Paul.

Oooh, Autumn is lovely. The season and that last girl.

In the first year of uni, the girl in the Halls next to mine was called Autumn-Sunday May. She was born in July. On a Tuesday. I think her parents were probably a bit fruit loop, to be honest…

(Speaking of names, Poppy, our spaniel just had puppies and we’re keeping two – my mother named one of them Dotty and the other Poppy!)

  3. Maria says:

    Wonderfully beautiful, Poppy!

    I adore Autumn!

Very nice pictures, Poppy. I don’t think I ever have seen a lovelier bottle of sloe gin. Smile

Autumn comes slowly to this corner of Floridia, and even then we have so many live oak trees, whose leaves do not turn or drop off in the fall, that it’s often hard to tell when it does arrive. But I will get a pumpkin in a couple of weeks and carve it for Halloween, perhaps while having a glass or two of sloe gin, and then I will feel fall-ish.

Oh, and the girl in the top photo has forgotten her underwear, which is odd, because with that style of dress, there usually is about 12 pounds of it all told, an amount I would think rather easy to remember.

  5. devlinoneill says:

Oh, and Viola, your comment made me laugh, and I completely agree with your assessment of that girl’s parents.

  6. Scarlet says:

Oh, Poppy, you write so many beautiful things, and this is just one more. But I think this is one of my favorite posts–for the feeling, the mood, the love of the season, and the photos, plus your own beautiful way of putting words together. I feel so inspired to walk in the woods, and drink hot cider and wonder at all of the beauty in the world. You even made sloe gin sound like a delight, and my memories of it are anything but delightful. But I think I would drink sloe gin with you, and enjoy it.

And I WANT that dress! I have no where to wear it, except in front of my own fireplace, but I want it.

I am in such a soft mood now. Thank you for that.

  7. Poppy says:

Oh, I so should not go to work- look at the comments I missed!

Paul, naughtiness is a state of mind, I quite agree. It is the state of my mind almost all the time (sometimes when I sleep I am good- but not often.)

Viola, names are funny things, are they not? I loved the process of picking a new one for blogging with. Me and your mums puppies … there is nothing I can say that sounds right after that.

Maria, me too- and you have snow! Does that still count as autumn?

Dev, I will bring autumn to you. And you must drink sloe gin, it is yummy. You could drink it long with tonic and lots of ice. My mouth is watering.

Scarlet, you do write such wonderful comments that I could just lie in them and wrap your words about me. You inspired this post with your comments about October- you are my muse! Smile

  8. Kaki says:

    Hi Poppy,
Wow! you are all early risers. I like your pictures, she has beautiful hair, love the curls.
I love Autumn too, the weather is perfect the air is crisp and cool the heat and humidy of the summer is just a memory. Taking long walks together in the woods, picking apples, the leaves changing color and especially cuddling with the one you love sometimes with the dog sometimes without Smile . (no fireplace – drat ! )
I used to drink sloe gin fizzes years agot, I have to try them again, I really liked them.

I always thought it was my favorite season because I was born in Oct., tomorrow is my birthday ( I am 50+ but not too close to 60) We just started do this in Feb so this will be my first birthday since, I am hoping to get a bd spanking. If not, probably by the end of the weekend, I don’t plan on being very good the next few days Smile

    take care,

Daddy made sloe gin once, it was when I first met him. I didn’t know what the weird bottle full of stuff was and he let me taste some. I thought it was really really lovely. Autumn is my most favourite time of year. I love collecting conkers and blackberries and kicking up leaves, and wearing mittens on string. Yep its a fantastic time of year. I love being snuggly warm inside when it’s cold outside

  10. Poppy says:

    Sammy!!
Hi, honey and how lovely to see you. Sloe gin is a delight, is it not? Mittens on string- a fabulous invention made for girls too happy to be thinking of where their gloves are.

  11. sammy says:

Well I have been thinking about yoo loads and I feel quite sheepish that I haven’t been keeping up with you here aa well as I should. So I will be from here on in.
