It is the second of September.
The summer is over.
I should be allowed to sulk with no fear of reprisal.
But I do like autumn. I am all grown up now but I always get that back to school feeling at this time of year. The smells and the feel of the air bring with them a whiff of new stationery, blank pages, new school shoes, and everything being fresh and lovely. The world brims with possibility and hope of change.
I don’t know how this happened to her. It is a new term, a new start, a new year. It cannot be like this all over again.
Hurumph.

I already miss August, just a little bit, but I love turning the page on the calendar to a new month. Who knows what will happen in September? It is a new beginning. I think I’ll go buy some fresh notebooks and sharpen some pencils, just to get in the mood.
Maybe I can take notes on how good I’ve been this month (so far).
Yeah, right, Scarlet. The media are clamoring to know how good you’ve been.
Poppy, you like shopping for new school shoes, and that girl no doubt had it coming from some mischief over the summer. Not to worry. Anyhow you get a clean slate every day. Well, you get one most days.
Well, I think Summer’s end is delightful.
What are the other two girls’ names? Their ends are nice, too.
(Ha ha)
Sorry, got carried away practicing my euphemisms. I shall now be incredibly good.
Poppy, all these incredibly good girls, how *interesting*, in the same way that heaven is *interesting*, but no-one wants to get there too soon.
My youngest great nephew starts BIG school next week, I suspect that he feels a little as you do.
New starts, change, all good things in moderation, I hope the coming new year brings you some of what you desire.
The Vernal equinox, for me, heralds the start of a new Solar year, plants and animals start preparing for winter, a good autumn presages a good year to come.
I suspect that the last picture is a reminder to behave, rather than a serious punishment.
Nice post Poppy, as usual.
Love and warm hugs,
Paul.
PS, I hope that you had a good night out, with the girls. D) P
Yay for fall, and yay for SCHOOL

Maria
It was lovely, Paul.
I am so glad that other people like autumn. I think it may be my favourite time of year. I am going through my house and my office and making evrything new and sparkly. Busy, busy, busy- but wonderful.
According to my calendars the first day of Autumn is actually September 23,but I too ALWAYS equated it with going back to school. Back to school around here is in August, when I was a kid in Connecticut and then Pennsylvania it was the day AFTER Labor Day.
Ah well memories.
I know just what you mean. I always think of Autumn as school returning days because that is the death knell of summer.
Even though fall doesn’t officially start for another 2 weeks, it feels like fall first thing in the morning. But another spring is just around the corner!
Hugs,
Hermione
Poppy, I can’t imagine what I was thinking, it should be Autumnal Equinox of course.
Paul.
Hi, Hermione, it is the cycle that I think I like so much. Nothing is permanant, everything changes.
Paul, well, I did not like to say anything.
Poppy, I am very happy to welcome September as it puts me closer to seeing my lovely Season, but if you want to have a little sulk I can understand that. Just don’t turn it into a full blown tantrum or Himself will deal with you accordingly.
No tantrum.
I am loving the autumn.
