The hair is in fact quite practical. As Maria pointed out it looks like a helmet, and in those days helmet liners were rubbish, made of chain mail, so this hair style kept the knight’s visor’d helm a bit more livable. However, you may be right, Poppy, and his girl did try to intervene where she’d got no business, and you see what it got her.

Maria, I think it is romantic- because her hair is as wonderful as his hair is awful. The romance is that hair is overcoming adversity and coming together no matter what the divide.
