It’s been a long, cold, lonely winter (thanks, George) and now that spring is in full blossom and true warmth has returned even to the sort of north of England, she is feeling a bit giddy, I think.

True there have been a couple of recent instances wherein spring fever turned to a more devastating malaise, but that is passed and all but forgotten, and the rich promise of summer looms on the horizon.

There will be long walks and cool swims, and languid afternoons of desultory chat, and icy drinks with limejuice and rum, and perhaps a lightning bug to glimmer its magical beam.
However, the time for frolic in the out of doors in no wise excuses any out of doors misbehavior or impertinence, unless a girl wants her bottom well smacked out of doors.
So a girl I know is well advised to keep the ice in her drink, and not in anyone else’s t-shirt neck, if she knows what is good for her.

This year America’s Memorial Day and England’s Spring Bank Holiday fall upon the same Monday.
It is entirely possible that this happens every year and I just hadn’t noticed, but in any case the gateway to summer will open for all of us at the same time, so take advantage.
That is all.
Devlin out.

I think it is a loving gesture to put ice down a tee shirt on a hot day. It shows I care and that I want someone to feel cool and refreshed.
I want summer NOW please.
And a cuddle.
And a mojito.
Dev,
you may be right, but summer in the UK can at times be a bit mythical.
Still there is a rumor doing the rounds, that we may indeed have a summer this year, however long it may last.
A spirited girl is going to be mischievous, it's healthy and to be expected, Dev, you surely know the cure.
Poppy, good morning, have a great day!
Warm hugs,
Paul.
There are other, less shocking ways for a guy to feel cool and refreshed, Poppy.
And Paul, I know an effective treatment for mischievous behavior, although I hesitate to call it a cure.
Spring pedantry…George, not John or Paul, I think you'll find? And can I assume on your blog a welcome is extended to pedants…
Warm regards
N
Oops.
It's a long and winding road to summer, and we're all thrilled it's here! Lovely post, Dev.
Hi, N!
You most certainly may assume my blit extends a warm welcome to pedants. We have a bit of a soft spot for pedants around these parts. But we ask that you are kind about my spelling. My spelling is rubbish. I do try and I use spell check but … I have only just realised that the word for checking your letters are in the correct order is the same word as for turning people into chickens.
Did everyone else realise this all along?
How can such a dull thing share a word with such an exciting (unreal) thing?
The world is wrong.
Scarlet, hey! He wrote a post on my blit. Tee hee.
Which one is unreal? Checking to see that letters are in the correct redro or turning people into chickens? I thought both were completely possible, although one is more unlikely.
Won nevver kan tel wyth wurds- especilly wen wun iz a chikin.
Squark!
Thanks, Scarlet, though although the summer gets so hot in Florida sometimes I wish I were in a Norwegian wood. (Took me a second to figure out what 'redro' means.
)
Poppy, one would think that a chikin could at least spell 'squawk.'
I think geography is destiny, in a way. The weather, the seasons, the wind, the rains, the flowers and the foliage, all combine to create a unique world that each of us live in. My life in the northeast is all about snowy winters and delicate springs, but I do understand hot summers. You seem like a man who enjoys the tropical heat, at least through what you write.
Do you think so? I'm sure you're right about geography and destiny, but I have written several snow storms as well that got pretty hot otherwise.
Yes, I would say that your writing does explore some rather hot topics, whether or not they're set in the tropics! Better to have geography as destiny than to be a Nowhere Man, though, right? As for me, right now I'll Follow the Sun!
