I had always thought that the word “nebulous” meant to do with stars, as in “nebula.” I think that is a perfectly sensible perception of the word.
Today I learned what “nebulous” means.
It means (heavy sigh) vague, cloudy and without clear purpose.
This morning I was in a strop. I know that not everyone gets into a strop for no reason but I do. It happens mostly in the morning and I do not know why it happens. I just wake up grumpy and then there is a rip in a Sunday paper, or a sparrow is the wrong colour, or some fool plays “I just called to say I love you” on the radio and everything gets worse. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
I thought he would spank me for being in a snit but he did not. That he did not act put me in more of a snit. We walked the dogs in the ice which was all slippy and made me more mad and I determined not to hold his hand for support. If I could have stomped my foot when I walked I would have done, but I would have landed on my bottom which is tender these days and did not need landing upon.
We had lunch (how come so few Americans have eaten leeks? They are wonderful saute
ed with green olives) and polished off a rather wonderful bottle of Rioja. How decadent to drink in the afternoon and how very wonderful to get a little tipsy and watch the sun turn orange through the hard outlines of trees.
We went to bed and I thought all was forgotten and forgiven.
Despite my very pretty nightie he did not spend his time in idle (or not so idle) adoration of his beloved. Rather, I was most ignobly upended and I write this, some time after the event, on a hot and sore bottom.
He said that he did not want to spank me until he knew every single thing that was in my muddled mind and it had all come tumbling out as the Rioja went flowing in.
He does not spank for nebulous reasons he said, even when I am in a snit for, as it turned out, nebulous reasons.
Isn’t it funny when they turn out to know stuff like that?

Yes, nebulous reasons, nebulous clouds. We are girls and I think sometimes there is no reason, and sometimes, even if there is we don't know it, and sometimes a spanking helps anyway. No one knows why!
